Most Services setups follow the same pattern: pick a service type, create the service in BLOX NXT under Community > Services, configure it, and connect it to your paywall. Two parts still happen in the legacy BLOX admin for now: payment handlers are created in Transactions, and paywall offers are built in Access Control. Each setup below lists every step in order, noting where each one happens.

Before you start

You'll need:

• The Edit services ability (or Subscription Full access) in your BLOX user group. See Services Overview.

• Access to the legacy BLOX admin for paid setups, to manage payment handlers and Access Control.

Where things live today:

Same services, two screens. Services in BLOX NXT are the same services found under Community > Subscription > Services in the legacy BLOX admin. A service created in one appears in the other.

Set up by BLOX Digital support: circulation-system integrations, In-App Purchase, Subscribe with Google, and linking sites for Linked Site services. Contact support if you have any questions about this.

Pick your path

Launch a digital subscription

Use a Subscription service to sell digital access on your site. Steps marked Legacy happen in the legacy BLOX admin; the rest happen in BLOX NXT.

1. Legacy: set up a payment handler (skip if you already have one). Open Transactions, click the gear icon, and click + New. BLOX supports Authorize.Net, PayPal PayFlow Pro, and NMI (Acumen). NMI doesn't support recurring transactions, so use Authorize.Net or PayPal PayFlow Pro for auto-renewing subscriptions. See Payment Handlers.

2. Create the service. In Community > Services, click New, choose Subscription, enter a name, and click Create Service.

3. Fill in General Settings. Add a Notification Email and a Service Description readers will see, and turn on Testing Mode while you set up. See Service Settings and Email Notifications.

4. Configure billing. In Configuration, choose your Payment Handler and set Grace Period and Recurring Payments. Click Save Changes. See Subscription Services and Purchase Rates.

5. Add purchase rates. In the Purchase Rates panel, click + New for each price you'll offer, such as Monthly and Yearly. For an introductory offer, create the regular rate first, then an intro rate that transitions to it. Price and term can't be changed after saving.

6. Turn on reader emails. In Email Notifications, turn on the emails you want (such as Purchase User and Renewal User) and review their wording.

7. Legacy: add the rates to your paywall. In Access Control, add the new rates to the Access Offer Group readers see at your paywall. Readers can't buy a rate until it's part of an offer. If Access Control isn't set up for your site yet, contact BLOX Digital support. See BLOX Access Control Overview.

8. Test. With Testing Mode on, buy a subscription on your site with a test card. No money is charged.

9. Go live. Turn off Testing Mode and click Save Changes. Confirm the service shows the green Live flag in the Services list.

Give print subscribers digital access

Use a Delimited Verification service to give access to readers on a list you upload, such as print subscribers exported from your circulation system.

1. Export your subscriber list as a CSV file of 50 MB or less. Include at least account number and email, plus the details readers will use to claim access, such as last name, phone, or postal code.

2. Create the service. In Community > Services, click New, choose Delimited Verification, and enter a name.

3. Set Configuration. Fill in the Map fields (Account Number and E-Mail are required), choose Signup Criteria (which details a reader must match), and set the Delimiter and Enclosure to match your file. Click Create Service.

4. Upload the list. In the File Upload panel, click Upload CSV and follow the AI Smart Subscriber Upload wizard: Upload File, Map Columns, Clean Data, Confirm Import, Results.

5. Legacy: offer the service at your paywall. In Access Control, make sure print subscribers are offered a way to claim this service. Contact BLOX Digital support if you're unsure how your paywall is set up.

Set up a site license for a school or company

Use a Domain service to give access to everyone whose email address belongs to an organization, such as a university or a business partner.

1. Create the service. In Community > Services, click New, choose Domain, and enter a name, such as the organization's name.

2. Add the domains. In Domain Management, click + New and enter each domain (for example, example.edu), or copy a list and click the clipboard icon to paste them all.

3. Set Configuration. Set Auto Bind Users to Yes to give access automatically to readers whose email matches a listed domain.

4. Click Create Service.

Offer free registration

Use a Free service to give readers access without payment, such as a free tier for readers who create an account.

1. Create the service. In Community > Services, click New, choose Free, and enter a name.

2. Set Configuration. Set Duration for how long free access lasts. Leave Auto Signup and Trial off unless you intend every new account to get free access indefinitely.

3. Click Create Service.

4. Legacy: offer the service at your paywall. In Access Control, add the Free service to the offer readers see, such as a registration prompt.
