What are Grace Periods and why should I use them?
Grace is a brief extension where a user continues to have access after a subscription expires. Grace is activated when auto-renewal fails, giving you a runway to collect payment instead of losing the subscriber completely. How do I turn on Grace?
Grace is set at the Service level. In BLOX Subscription, open the gear at the top-right and click the Services panel. On the Configure tab, you’ll see a line for Grace Period, and a dropdown menu. Select the period you want, then click Save. Grace periods will begin to apply immediately. What options do I have with Grace in BLOX Audience+?
For each service, you have the choice of setting a Grace period. The options are:‘None’ (the default)
‘1 week’ (7 days)
‘2 weeks’ (14 days)
‘1 month’ (30 days)
How do subscribers enter Grace?
If auto-renewal fails after a subscription expires, and a Grace period has been set on the service, Grace begins the following day. Conditions for this include the subscription being part of an auto-renewal-enabled service with a Grace period set. Note that users who explicitly cancel before expiration won't have a Grace period. What happens during Grace?
During Grace, the subscriber continues to have access to content. The user’s account will show a Grace status in the BLOX Subscription admin. BLOX will attempt to retry the credit card up to 14 times, depending on the length of Grace selected. If the card information is updated, either automatically or by adding a new card, payment will be accepted and the user will automatically move back to Active status. If payment cannot be collected, the user will be Canceled after Grace ends. When do credit card charge retries occur?
The number of credit card retries (in addition to the 3 prior to expiration) will be increased during Grace, depending on the length of time selected. The maximum number of attempts in any case will be 14.‘None’ (default) - 3 retries prior to expiration date, then the subscription is stopped/canceled
‘1 week’: 3 retries prior to expiration date, then attempted daily
‘2 weeks’: 3 retries prior to expiration date, then attempted daily
‘1 month’: 3 retries prior to expiration date, then attempted daily for the first week, then only on Monday and Friday and the 2nd and 16th of the month
What happens when Grace ends?
If payment cannot be collected during Grace, the user will be Canceled (stopped) after Grace ends with Reason: Card declined. What happens if a subscriber’s payment information is updated during Grace?
If the card information is updated, either automatically with credit card updater or by adding a new card, payment will be accepted and the user will automatically move back to Active status. The next renewal transaction should start where the last transaction ended, putting the subscriber back on track for the cadence that was originally set on the term. Are Grace Periods available with Subscriptions Pro?
No. This feature is for BLOX Audience or Audience+ sites only.
