I cannot send, or get errors when I send email

If you are using a local mail client such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, or Mozilla Thunderbird, and cannot send email, check the following:

  • Try sending a test message from TownNews webmail (webmail.townnews.com). If you can send messages from webmail, the problem is confined to your local mail client configuration.
  • Check that TownNews is your SMTP host. Your outgoing mail server should be set to:
mail.townnews.com mail.us-midwest-1.vip.tn-cloud.net
mail-chicago2.townnews.com mail.us-midwest-1.vip.tn-cloud.net
mail-newyork1.townnews.com mail.us-east-1.vip.tn-cloud.net
mail.yourdomain.com mail.us-midwest-1.vip.tn-cloud.net or mail.us-east-1.vip.tn-cloud.net

Note that sites using mail.youdomain.com will need to switch to the server
name your website is hosted within. Failure to due so may result in SSL errors.
