TownNews' BLOX CMS, our fulfillment partner Spreedly, as well as our gateway partner (PayFlow Pro), are 100% compliant with the MasterCard 2 Series BIN acceptance. This article is in response to customers receiving inquiries/compliance statements about this change:
Example of Inquiry/Compliance Statement
MasterCard is expanding its BIN ranges to help ensure a sustainable ecosystem that can accommodate continued payments growth and innovation. The new 2 series BINs (222100–272099 ) must be processed as a MasterCard transaction and treated in the same manner as the existing MasterCard 5 series BINs (510000–559999). Failure to accept 2 series BIN cards by June 30 2017 may result in noncompliance assessments ($15,000.00/merchant account) for each noncompliant merchant location until compliance is achieved.
More about Mastercard BIN changes
Bank Identification Numbers (BINs), which are the first six-digits of the account number, are fundamental to payments. They identify the issuing institution for the account and ensure that each transaction is routed correctly.
Mastercard® has received an additional range of 2-series numbers to add to the 5-series that they currently provide. The 2-series BINs operate in the same way as the 5-series and they have made changes to their systems to accommodate the new numbers. Mastercard customer financial institutions can expect to be issued 2-series BINs starting in 2017.
PayPal's PayFlow Pro gateway
PayFlow Pro has confirmed that it supports the series-2 BIN cards that MasterCard is issuing. This has been supported as of October of 2016.
PayPal worked in tandem with Braintree to ensure that support for the 2-series cards would be available. Included below is a link to a Braintree article (a PayPal owned processor similar to Payflow) confirming this timeframe.
