What are Sections?
A Section (or Section tag) is a main topic within a website. A Section can either be a primary section, such as /news, or a subsection, such as /news/local/. Collectively, sections and subsections are known as a Section Map.
Readers naturally look for content by topic, so Sections are the primary method of tagging assets in BLOX among tags (Sections, Keywords, GeoLocations, Sites or Flags). Sections are the only tagging criteria that is considered required; failing to section tag an asset can result in 404 errors.
Sections vs URLs
A URL is a specific web address where content is displayed and users visit. Within BLOX CMS, the page layout of a URL can be modified within Design Blocks.
In almost all instances, a Section will have a corresponding URL (or sub-URL) of the same name.
In terms of naming and presentation, Sections offer more flexibility in formatting and support spaces and uppercase characters, while URL structure is much more strict and limits naming to underscores between words and lowercase characters. For example, the /news/world/ URL could feature a Section called World News.
How to Add a Section
Within the Manage site sections panel, to create a primary section, select "Section Tags" and then select +New. Within the New section panel, create the name of the section.
To create a subsection, such as /news/local/, select the desired primary section (instead of "Section Tags") and then select +New and create the new section.
By default, the Active and Create URL options are selected. Deselect Active if you would like to create the tag, but not having the ability to assign content to it for the time-being.
The Create URL option is selected by default so that when the Section is created, a corresponding URL will also be created. Select Submit to add the new tag.
How to Delete a Section
Sections may be edited or removed by selecting the section and then utilizing either toolbar option. If too many assets are assigned with the tag, you'll encounter a warning that indicates any assets that have been assigned with that section will need to be reassigned to a new section. This is a safeguard to insure that assets feature a primary method of tagging, as noted above.
This process only deleted the section itself however and not any corresponding URLs associated with it. URLs will need to be removed within the URL Settings.
How to add a Section to an asset
Within an asset, locate the Sections panel within the Tags tab. To add a new Select +Add to populate the Select Sections panel.
When a Section has been added, it will appear within content blocks (when enabled) and search results.
