Although these are links to a search results page, and they are useful for end users to click for more information, they are not “followed” links so they do not contribute to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Now, however, it is possible to create Topic Pages which do become a followed link and will help with SEO.
To do this, first create a section called "topic" in your URL map.
Next, create subsections for some of your most popular topics or keyword tags.
When the page creates the keyword links at the bottom of the story, it will first look in your URL map under the “topic” section and try to match the keyword with a specific URL inside the “topic” section. If it finds one, it links with a followed link to that section. If not, it creates a “no follow” link to a search results page (as it does today).
BEST PRACTICE: In order for the URL and the keyword tag to “match” properly, the names must line up properly, following these rules:
Hyphens between words are left as hyphens. (Local-government becomes /topic/local-government
Spaces become underscores. (Joe Evans becomes topic/joe_evans
Underscores are left as underscores. (joe_evans becomes topic/joe_evans)
Punctuation is removed for clarification purposes (Hafner’s becomes topic/halfners)
NOTE: Remember that you can add important topics to the site search so that when a user searches for that item, it is one of the first things that is displayed. This helps highlight important topics when users are specifically looking for that information.
