Specifically for the TownNews.com Ad Manager product, it is a pretty simple process. Whenever the ad script is loaded as the page loads, an impression is counted for that ad. Because Ad Manager is synchronous (meaning, it loads as the page loads), this means that if a user leaves the page before the page has loaded the ad scripts, an impression may not be counted even though a pageview is counted (either from BLOX tracking statistics or by Google Analytics).
