Three Methods
- Normal
- Remote
- Local
Normal
Normal users are what all BLOX Total CMS users were prior to the introduction of Distributed Production. Normal users will have no ability to check in or check out documents for/from remote users. All Normal users will require access to the centralized file server because all documents will reside there.
Examples of Normal Users
- All users prior to Distributed Production
- Any "In Office" user who never needs to access a page produced by a Remote user
Remote
A Remote Log In is for Adobe InDesign users that are NOT "In Office." These are all the users who are building pages at a location other than where the central file server is located. It is for these Remote users that Distributed Production functionality was constructed.
Remote users need the correct version of Adobe InDesign installed on their workstation. The correct version is whatever version is being used at the site. They also need the client software and any additional files. Finally, the Remote users need a connection to the BLOX Total CMS server.
Examples of Remote users:
- Any user who is NOT "In Office".
Local
Local users are "In Office" users with access to Check In for the Remote Users and to Check Out pages that the Remote users might have finished.
The Distributed Production workflow doesn't force "In Office" users to become Local users, but because of access to the Edition Files and, likely more importantly, advertising image files, we expect there will be Local users at every group using Distributed Production.
Examples of Local users:
- The "In Office" Advertising Layout staff who uses Create Edition from Edition File... to product the pages for an edition. If the site has Remote users, only a Local user can check in the pages they need.
- Any "In Office" staff that needs to add something to a page being worked on by a Remote user. For example, assume that an evergreen image is needed on a page and IT didn't provide those images. The Remote user can check in the page, the Local user could check out the page, add the image, and check it back in for the Remote users. Normal users do not have any access to any pages being worked on by Remote users.
- An "In Office" team member who adds final items to pages. For example, some feature pages might be produced early by Remote users but an "In Office" Local user might need to modify a skybox on the section front.
- An "In Office" member of the production team that might be adding advertisements to the pages and outputting those pages.
