In addition to the client code, each remote workstation may need these items based upon the site’s specific workflow:
- Output Presets
- Design Element Snippets
- Page Design Snippets
- Evergreen images or Place Files
- Utility Scripts
- PDF-based Documentation
Output Presets
The only preset that will be automatically loaded is the PageTrackerPreview Adobe PDF Preset that is used to update Page Tracker with previews of pages. If the Remote users will be outputting pages, they will need to have the presets loaded. The optional utility for loading these presets will not function because the paths won't match. So these presets will need to be loaded manually. This is the local site's responsibility. Additional details on loading print presets can be found here:
The Adobe PDF preset loading process requires the remote user to use File > Adobe PDF Presets... . They will click the Load button and navigate to the preset. Normally that preset would be on the local file server, but the remote users likely won't be able to reach this, so you might want to prepare a flash drive for the remote users.
Page Design Snippets
The Page Design Snippets might not be needed because when the page workflow is optimized as the Page Design Snippets will be applied during the creation of the edition. That said, if the Remote page designers have the ability to override the page's content type, or if the Edition creation process is purposely intended to be less efficient, the Remote users will need access to the Page Design Snippets.
Page Design Snippet Source Location:
Generically, the location for the Page Design Snippets is:
\\ server \ share \ tcms_indesign \ [ domain \ ] Snippets \ Place at Original Location \
That is a very generic location. Some sites don't use the optional domain and some sites have a different final folder name.
Page Design Snippet Remote Destination Location:
- On MacOS: ~/tcms/tcms_indesign/[domain/]Snippets/Place at Original Location/
- On Windows: %userprofile%\tcms\tcms_indesign\[domain\]Snippets\Place at Original Location\
Note, the domain is optional depending upon how a site configures their paths.
Design Element Snippets
There is a similar location for the Design Element Snippets:
- On MacOS: ~/tcms/tcms_indesign/[domain/]Snippets/User Controlled Placement/
- On Windows: %userprofile%\tcms\tcms_indesign\[domain\]Snippets\User Controlled Placement\
Evergreen Images
If the site uses Place Files or other evergreen images, the remote users will need access to these. Ideally, these would instead become assets so that all users can access them. However, BLOX limits the number of times these can be placed and that creates additional limitations. So providing a copy of the evergreen images or place file images would be helpful. Place file use will require placement on the Remote workstation in the same relative path as used in the file server.
Utility Scripts
TownNews has provided a variety of utility scripts to sites for several years. If your Local or Normal users have a BLOX Total CMS > Utilities > menu option, then your site has at some of these utilities. We can't tell you, however, if your staff actually uses them.
Some of the more commonly used utilities include:
- Comics Auto Flow
- Load Presets
- Auto Adjust Tab Stops
Of those, the first several would likely never be used by a Remote user, so you will need to discuss with your Remote users which, if any, they need. Some users won’t work in a remote configuration because the files they need won’t be available. And some of the utilities won't work in a Remote configuration because the files they point to won't be available.
Utility Source Location:
Generically, the location for the Utility Scripts is:
\\ server \ share \ tcms_indesign \ [ domain \ ] Scripts \ Utilities \
Utility Script Destination Location for Remote Users:
Generically, the location for the Utility Scripts on the remote computers would be something like this:
- On MacOS: ~/tcms/tcms_indesign/[domain/]Scripts/Utilities/
- On Windows: %userprofile%\tcms\tcms_indesign\[domain\]Scripts\Utilities\
PDF-based Documentation
Some sites have a series of optional Adobe PDF files that are used for local documentation. This is optional. Some sites choose instead to make BLOX Total CMS assets of PDFs for documentation.
Generic Location for General Documents
\\ server \ share \ tcms_data \ General Documents \
PDF-based Documentation for Remote Users:
- MacOS: ~/tcms/tcms_data/General_Documents/
- Windows: %userprofile%\tcms\tcms_data\General_Documents\
