Output’s Configuration
Output is configured for a domain by describing the desired output options in an Output Preferences XML file located in the designated folder.
The path to the folder for the Output Preferences XML is set in the browser interface at:
Settings > InDesign > Path configuration
That menu options displays the following type of dialog:
Then set the value in the Output Preferences: value.
The default value is:
tcms_indesign / domain_local / Output Preferences
That path is automatically concatenated with the Base Path for either Windows or OS X.
Any path where the user’s can reach without additional authentication will be fine. It does not need to be on BLOX Total CMS’s appliances. If you want to move it to another server, start the path with two forward slashes as shown below:
//server/share/folder
If you want to use the same output options for multiple domains, just configure the Output Preferences path for multiple domains to point to the same location.

Best Practices when Editing the XML Configuration file:
By default, the Output Preferences folder will contain a folder named ‘Backups’. We strongly recommend copying the existing Output Preferences XML file to this Backups folder prior renaming the existing file and editing it to made the desired changes. This provides a very fast and $0 cost solution to restore output if editing made the XML unparseable.
When editing the file either edit it with an editor for XML or open the file in a browser that can parse XML (for example Internet Explorer is good at this) as well as an actual editor such as Windows Notepad. OS X users might want to preview in Safari and edit using Text Edit. Each time you save the edited XML switch to the browser version of the file and refresh. If an XML parsing error occurs, it should be easy to find if you do this frequently.
Make sure the file extension stays .xml as that is the only file that is read. Some text editors might want to change it.
Multiple XML files? Don’t do it!
BLOX Total CMS for Adobe InDesign is supposed to read the first XML file in the path indicated above. However, because different OS versions and different OSs sort differently, it is best to only keep a single XML file in the path indicated above.
