BLOX Total CMS is evolving to meet the growing demands for efficient multi-domain publishing workflows by introducing Cross Domain Clone to Sh…
This document outlines the basic use of Cross Domain Clone which was added to the BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe InDesign with version 5.69 in February of 2024.
- What is Cross Domain Clone?
Cross Domain Clone is an advanced feature of BLOX Total CMS that allows the replication of assets across different domains using BLOX Site Tags. It extends the functionality of the legacy Clone and Move, enabling the sharing of Adobe InDesign pages across various BLOX Total CMS sites. - How does Cross Domain Clone work?
It triggers the replication of assets between domains through BLOX Site Tags. Once assets are syndicated to the Destination Domain, they can be placed on designated pages, maintaining the layout and content consistency across different domains. - What are the main advantages of using Cross Domain Clone?
The key advantage is the ability to produce fully segmented BLOX Live e-Edition pages using assets native to each domain, which is crucial for maintaining a cohesive digital experience, especially as publications reduce print versions. - What are Source and Destination Domains?
The Source Domain is where the original assets and Adobe InDesign document/page are located. The Destination Domain is where you want these assets to be copied to and placed on a new Adobe InDesign document/page. - What is a Site Tag?
A Site Tag is a core BLOX functionality that facilitates the background replication of source assets to the Destination Domain. It's essential for the Cross Domain Clone process. - Are there any requirements for BLOX configuration for Cross Domain Clone?
Yes, each Source Domain needs a Site Tag for each Destination Domain for sharing pages. Site Tags should preferably be created using the Linked Sites feature for faster syndication. Also, ensure there are no DRM or workflow process restrictions that might prevent asset syndication. - How do I use Cross Domain Clone within Adobe InDesign?
Start by creating the Source Page with all desired assets in the Source Domain. Use the BLOX Total CMS > Cross Domain Clone > Request... option to select the Destination Domain and page. After assets syndicate, construct the Destination Page in Adobe InDesign if not already done, then complete the process with BLOX Total CMS > Cross Domain Clone > Complete.... - What should I consider regarding page size and template styles?
Ensure that the Source and Destination Pages have compatible margins, columns, and live areas for proper alignment. For template styles, ensure consistency in style names across templates, though their definitions can vary. The process will adapt text formatting using the Destination Page's style definitions. - Can Cross Domain Clone handle multiple pages and jumps?
The functionality currently only works with the first page of the Adobe InDesign documents. Assets on additional pages won't be replicated. For jumps, it's advised to complete the Cross Domain Clone process before adding jumps to ensure smooth replication. - What if I need to clone to multiple Destination Pages in the same domain?
While Cross Domain Clone can request replication to multiple Destination Pages, it does not create multiple copies of the Source Domain's assets. If unique edits are needed for each Destination Page, consider using the legacy Clone and Move... after the first Destination Page is created to generate unique assets for subsequent pages. - What are the minimum requirements for using Cross Domain Clone?
This feature requires a hosted version of BLOX Total CMS and Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud, specifically versions 2023 and newer. Additionally, your BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe InDesign should be version 5.69 or newer.
