Basic Procedure to Find Assets
Click once on the 'Search' tab, if you aren't already there.
Click the 'Reset' button. You should see a count of all the images assets at the bottom right of the panel.
Type a word† associated with the asset you are looking for in the 'Search text' field.
Click the 'Search' button.
†If the word was found in BLOX, then you will automatically be taken to the 'Results' tab after clicking the 'Search' button.
Search Tips
The BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe Photoshop follows BLOX's rules for searching.
Adding extra words to the 'Search text' field provides an automatic AND. Thus, if you set that field to 'fish boat', then all assets must have relationships to BOTH 'fish' and 'boat'.
'Search text' uses root words. Thus, if you search for 'fish', the search results will include those assets matching 'fish', 'fished', 'fishes', and 'fishing'. Likewise using a search of 'boating' will find 'boating' and 'boat' as 'boat' is the root word of 'boating'.
'Search text' is NOT case sensitive. Searching for 'FISH', 'Fish', 'fish' or 'fiSH' will all produce the same results.
'Slug' searches require exact matches. If you are unsure of the exact slug, you can use * for unknown parts, but it's safer to just ignore the 'Slug' search field since 'Search text' searches asset's Slug field too.
'Slug' searches ARE case sensitive. If an asset was slugged '20240101-newyear' and you search for '20240101-NewYear' you will NOT find the asset.
'Slug' searches should not have spaces even if the slug has a space. Again, using the 'Search text' field is safer unless you know the exact text or make judicious use of *.
Adding a 'Section' forces the results to be limited to those with the 'Search text' which also has the selected 'Section'. This can be quite limiting. If you aren't finding what you expect, remove the 'Section' option.
If your site makes good use of workflows, this is a real power feature. For example, some sites have Photo workflows for images to tone. But if you're unsure of exactly which workflow an image asset is in, avoid using the Workflow menu/picker and stick to using the 'Search text'
Automatic Search
All four search options are set to search after making a change. For example, after changing the text in the 'Search text' field, you can press the 'tab' key on your keyboard and the search will be performed and it will update the number of search results shown in the lower right corner of the 'Search' tab. It will not, however, switch to the 'Results' tab. For that you can either click the 'Results' tab, or click the 'Search' button.
Monitor the search count in the lower right hand corner of the Search tab to verify that you've done a new search with different results.
The highlighted area shows the number of found BLOX image assets found with the current options in the Search tab.
Search Options are Cached
The BLOX Total CMS client for Adobe Photoshop remembers your last search options even if you haven't used the client for days or weeks. So if, for example, you always use a particular workflow, that Workflow menu/picker should still be set. Clicking 'Reset', will however clear that menu/picker.
'Reset' is your friend!
Having trouble finding something? Click the 'Reset' button and try a single word in the 'Search text' field. Build on that.
Opening Assets for Editing
After searching, if you aren't viewing the 'Results' tab, click once on that tab.
Scroll through and/or page through the search Results until you locate the image to open.
Double-click on the desired image to open it for editing.
Alternate method to open an asset for Editing
In addition to the 'Results' tab, there is a 'Details' tab that is visible after clicking once on an asset in the 'Results' tab. A user can also double-click on the displayed asset in the 'Details' tab to open the asset for editing. There is a separate article for the Details tab.
Saving Changes to BLOX
If you use any of Adobe Photoshop's image editing functions and leave the file format as .png or .jpg, simply closing the image asset will automatically update BLOX with the changed asset.
Note, it is the asset's high-resolution image that get's updated by doing this. This should force a asset's preview to update. But the Print Ready images will be left untouched. See the separate article for details on editing those Print Ready images.
