From a new name and look to an entirely new mobile app experience, big changes are happening at BLOX Digital (formerly TownNews)!
This article describes the process for configuring in-app purchase (IAP) of subscriptions in the BLOX NX mobile application for iOS and Android.
This article describes steps to generate a Google Service Account, which is needed in order to achieve in-app purchase in BLOX NX Android apps.
In order to drive engagement with brands we believe it is important to shine a spotlight on those who are creating the content. It is important to put a face to a name. Any asset shown in an article detail view will feature an author (or authors) box displaying the author’s name and image, if available. When clicked this box will take the user to a list of the most recent assets published from this author. It will also include a “Follow author” button.
Depending on the area you are located, there are a lot of noteworthy weather events from tornadoes to floods to forest fires. In order to provide readers with timely alerts and notices we have added a block called “Weather alerts”. This is a banner-like block which features weather alerts from the National Weather Service (https://alerts.weather.gov) based on zip code.
The first GAM supported ad shown to the user is the ‘App Open’ ad. This is a full screen modal advertisement placement which appears after the app has finished loading. It is displayed either on the splash screen or on the home screen, depending on the platform. The ad is presented in the center of the screen to the user and is unclickable for X number of seconds. After X number of seconds, a skip button will appear prompting the user to continue. The ad will disappear after Y number of seconds if no user interaction occurs. The X and Y variable settings are controlled in GAM.
The splash screen ad could potentially be the first advertisement your users see on the BLOX Mobile NX app. This is a static image which appears in the lower third of the splash screen image. The image does not rely on GAM and therefore requires manual upload and removal from BLOX Mobile App Manager.
When the app loads it will download the splash screen image from the server and display it in the placement immediately. This can take up to 5 seconds depending on the network connection of the device. The app will then load the rest of the app. In some cases, the time between when the image shows and the app finishes loading may be shorter than desired for the advertiser. In this case, we do offer a delay of up to 20 seconds (6 seconds by default) to allow the ad placement to show.
When creating an in-app message in Customer.io you almost always want to make your message actionable such as to drive the user to a location. In the past using a deep link URL was the only way to push users to a location.
Actions are similar to deep links as they provide a destination for the end user but differ in the way the app processes them. On Android, a deep link will cause the app to ‘reset’ (if the app is currently running) in order to process the request and push the user to the location. When using an action the app immediately recognizes the action and pushes the user to the destination with little interruption. Please note, this is the recommended way by Customer.io to create button actions.
